چکیده

Table 1. Effect of methionine addition to a protein free diet on cell composition Tissue composition was measured as described in the text on rats fed for 30 days on a protein-free diet supplemented or not with 0.3% methionine and in control rats at the beginning of the experiment of 150g on a normal diet (A) or fed for 30 days on a complete diet with 18% protein (B). Values represent the means f S.E.M. for six animals. Significance of the differences, determined by Student’s t test, is reported only for ‘protein deprived + Met’ from ‘protein deprived’ rats: *P< 0.05, +*P<O.Ol, *++P < 0.00 1. Effect of glucocorticoid hormones on fatty acid mobilization and re-esterification in rat adipose tissue.

1. The effect of dexamethasone and cortisol on fatty acid mobilization and re-esterification has been studied in intact adipose tissue and isolated fat cells of the rat. 2. Dexamethasone added in vitro inhibited both the re-esterification of mobilized free fatty acids and the esterification of palmitate in the medium. 3. Under several conditions (low concentrations of dexamethasone, cortisol at...

Intracellular pH in adipocytes: effects of free fatty acid diffusion across the plasma membrane, lipolytic agonists, and insulin.

The main function of white adipose tissue is to store nutrient energy in the form of triglycerides. The mechanism by which free fatty acids (FFA) move into and out of the adipocyte has not been resolved. We show here that changes in intracellular pH (pH1) in adipocytes correlate with the movement of FFA across cellular membranes as predicted by the Kamp and Hamilton model of passive diffusion o...

Hormones and fatty acid metabolism in white adipose tissue [proceedings].

This short review is devoted to considerations of acute regulation rather than longerterm effects achieved through dietary manipulation or massive and prolonged hormone administration in t h o . Adipose-tissue fatty acid metabolism is conveniently divided into: assimilation of fatty acids from circulating lipoproteins; synthesis de novo of fatty acids, mainly from carbohydrate; assembly of tria...

The metabolism of isolated fat cells. IV. Regulation of release of protein by lipolytic hormones and insulin.

Proteins of fat cells, isolated from rat epididymal fat pads, were labeled with 14C-histidine or 14C-leucine. The fate of the labeled protein was examined after subsequent treatment of the cells with hormones. Release of labeled proteins was stimulated by lipolytic hormones (adrenocorticotropic hormone, glucagon, and epinephrine) and by theophylline. Proteolysis, as measured by the appearance i...

Effect of nucleic acid metabolites on lipolysis in adipose tissue.

It has been observed that nucleic acids, nucleotides, and nucleosides inhibit the lipolytic action of epinephrine on adipose tissue, whereas purine and pyrimidine bases increase it (1). Further studies, described in the present report, have shown this interaction to be quite specific for lipolysis (uptake and esterification of fatty acids being unaffected), but not limited to epinephrine (other...
